Dr. Beehler’s academic career includes serving in a wide range of leadership positions over the past 19 years: Chair/President of Faculty Senate, Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, Associate Provost, Provost and Vice President. Prior to coming to Robert Morris, he had the opportunity to be an academic entrepreneur and start a new university serving as the founding Provost and Vice President for Academic Excellence and Student Success at the University of North Texas at Dallas (overseeing all aspects of both academic and student affairs) as well as the founding Vice President for Research, Economic Development and Public Engagement. Previously, Dr. Beehler served as the Associate Provost for Economic Initiatives and the Dean of the Haile/US Bank College of Business at Northern Kentucky University where he held the Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Dean Leadership Chair in Business. He also served as Dean of the Barton School of Business at Wichita State University as well as Chair/President of the Faculty Senate, Department Chair, and Associate Dean at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Beehler earned his B.S. from Penn State University with Highest Distinction in the Accounting Honors Program. He earned his MBA in Finance and Taxation and his Ph.D. in Accounting and Taxation with a minor in Law from Indiana University. Dr. Beehler is a graduate of the Harvard Institutes of Higher Education Management Development Program and the American Academic Leadership Institute’s Executive Leadership Academy. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a qualified mediator. While practicing in public accounting, Dr. Beehler had significant experience as a college and university accounting/auditing specialist for an international CPA firm. As a Professor of Accounting, he has published widely in academic and professional journals and has received various teaching awards over his academic career.

Dr. Beehler has a very diverse base of successful experience in higher education. This experience spans public and private universities, research and comprehensive regional universities, and a start-up university. Dr. Beehler has been successful in leading both internally and externally-focused university initiatives and activities. His external experience includes friend-raising, fund-raising, research, grants and contracts, philanthropic foundations, branding, marketing and public relations, community/governmental/alumni relations, regional economic development, entrepreneurship activities, public engagement, outreach centers, and public/private partnerships. Of particular note is Dr. Beehler’s success in friend and fund-raising as a key member of teams that raised almost $50 million for his colleges during his ten-year tenure as a business school Dean. He also has an extensive background in economic development initiatives and activities, especially those promoting regional economic development, entrepreneurship and international trade. Specifically, he started the Center for Economic Analysis and Development and developed a comprehensive economic initiatives plan for Northern Kentucky University. He also founded the Northern Kentucky Entrepreneur Alliance. In Kansas, he worked with legislators and entrepreneurs to start and fund the statewide Kansas Center for Entrepreneurship and with Koch Industries to establish the world’s first Market-Based Management Center located at Wichita State University. He was also an active member of the World Trade Council of Wichita and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. Dr. Beehler has served on numerous boards, task forces and committees for various organizations locally, regionally and nationally.

Dr. Beehler’s internal experience includes leading all aspects of academic affairs and managing key institutional effectiveness activities including strategic planning, budgeting and accountability, assessment, and international, national, regional and specialized accreditations. He is also experienced in student affairs and has had oversight of student life, college readiness, enrollment management, registrar and financial aid. Dr. Beehler’s approach to student affairs has focused on a strong commitment to student success with emphases on active student learning, academic support and advising, career preparation, internships/cooperative education, student-faculty research collaborations and student recruitment, retention and graduation initiatives. He believes in the development of the student both as a professional and an ethical, engaged, global citizen. He is committed to faculty and staff development, faculty governance, cross-campus interdisciplinary collaborations and programs, and enhanced use of technology in learning (including distance education and blended learning). Dr. Beehler believes that universities should be publically engaged as key partners with the communities they serve. He also believes that universities should be transparent and accountable for performance while being learning organizations committed to continuous quality improvement. Dr. Beehler has experience with intercollegiate athletics in a variety of capacities including serving as a key member of the search committee for an athletic director for an NCAA program.

Dr. Beehler and his wife Pamela have been married for 35 years. They have one daughter who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and serves as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Dr. Beehler enjoys sports (especially golf, tennis, running and cycling), music and the arts, traveling and reading.
