Welcome to the School of Business
Welcome to the School of Business at Robert Morris
University. The School of Business is the oldest of RMU’s five academic
schools, dating back to the university’s founding in 1921 as the Pittsburgh
School of Accountancy. The RMU School of Business is accredited by AACSB
International, a designation earned by only 5 percent of business schools
worldwide, and it remains the largest of RMU’s schools.
The School of Business epitomizes RMU’s mission to provide
students with a hands-on, professionally focused education that launches them
immediately into successful careers and allows them to adapt to the changing
needs of the global economy. Year after year, more than 9 in 10 graduates of
the RMU School of Business are
employed or enrolled in graduate school within a year of graduation, with
the vast majority working in their field of choice. Graduates of the RMU School
of Business include Richard Harshman ’78, chairman, president, and CEO of
Allegheny Technologies Inc.; Morgan O’Brien ’82 M’85, president and CEO of
Peoples Natural Gas; Kevin Colbert ’79, general manager of the Pittsburgh
Steelers; Deborah Cunningham M’86, executive vice president of Federated Investors; and Jada Grandy ’00 M’ 04, CRA Strategies
Director and SVP Community & Economic Development for Fifth Third Bank.
Among the keys to our success are faculty who are excellent
teachers and researchers and who, in many cases, have real-world experience in
the fields they teach with industry contacts that help students land
internships and jobs. Our annual Business Week and numerous departmental
networking events bring successful alumni and other business leaders to campus
to share their experiences and insights with students. The yearly Sport
Management Conference provides professional development and networking to
students and alumni in sport management, which is one of the best such programs
in the nation.
We also offer a state-of-the-art educational facility, the
School of Business Building, which includes the PNC Trading Center, the U.S.
Steel Videoconferencing and Technology Resource Center, and the ATI Center. Each
of these spaces provide state of the art learning technologies, and demonstrate
the support RMU has earned from the corporate community. Time and time again we
have proven that RMU means business.
